It’s usually a lot more rewarding and a lot less expensive to grow vegetable plants and flowers from seed. It’s also a fun way to get children interested in gardening
Think of shrubs as the backbone of the garden. These are the plants that will add structure and interest throughout the year. Even if they lose all their leaves in winter, many have colourful bark, or a snazzy silhouette to add life on a dull day. There are flowering shrubs for sun or shade, fast-growing shrubs for quick cover, shrubs that can cope with the odd football, and low maintenance shrubs that are virtually impossible to kill
This gorgeous peony produces exquisite, fully double, large and fragrant blush white flowers, which are sometimes attractively marked with tiny crimson flecks. They look a little like roses and top the strong stems from early to midsummer. A floriferous variety, ‘Mother’s Choice’ makes an excellent garden plant, and will also produce superb cut flowers for the vase. They make a lovely gift too. Plant it close to a pathway or entrance, where the fabulous scent can be really appreciated.
